AIMING FOR THE TOP PRIZE: DADZIE DREAMS BIG

MFON PATRICK

Akwa United and Togolese defender Kodjovi Dadzie has expressed optimism that he and his teammates are determined to rewrite the club’s history in the 2019/2020 NPFL season, by capturing the league crown at the end of the season.

Dadzie who joined the Promise Keepers in 2016, is one of the longest serving players in the team and he is in his fourth season with the Uyo based side.

The Togolese International told the club’s official website www.Akwaunitedfc.net that the caliber of players in the team this season are capable of winning the league diadem.

After failing to land any trophy last season and missing out on continental spot, Dadzie said the new season is a fresh opportunity for the players to repay the fans with something to cheer about.

“I am excited that the new season is starting this weekend. We have been on break for a very long time. We have been training and playing series of pre-season friendlies but the new season is finally here, and we are ready to take it by storm.

“By the special grace of God, the 2019/2020 NPFL season will be our (Akwa United) season to win the league title. We have missed the crown narrowly in each of the past three seasons, now we know that we have to take the league by storm. We have to ensure that we remain focused and work hard to be able to capture the league title this season because we have what it takes to win it.

“The players that have joined us for the new season are top quality, and some of them have won the League before, so with their experience we will go places. Again, the arrival of coach John Obuh and coach Duke Udi maybe the tonic we need to be champions of the NPFL” said Kodjovi.

Kodjovi Dadzie was part of the Promise Keepers’ squad that won the Aiteo Cup in 2017. The defender said he is not perturbed by the arrival of two new players in his position but believes that the newly signed players have the needed experience to help the team achieve her target at the end of the season.

” Last season we were three players at left-back position, two left at the end of the season, this season the club has signed two new players – Ali Chiwendu and Philip David. We are three at left-back, so there will be lots of competition in that position but I will continue to work hard to ensure I maintain my place in the first team”.

The Aiteo Cup winner who scored one goal and created four assists last season is expected to be in the Promise Keepers starting line up when they engage Warri Wolves away from home in their opening NPFL game of the season.
