Aiteo Cup: Akwa Utd Won’t leave anything to chance – Maikaba

Aiteo Cup defending Champions Akwa United will attempt to continue their superlative performance in the competition this weekend when they take on Nigeria National League side Aklosendi FC of Lafia in the Round of 32 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

The Promise Keepers thrashed Hope of Glory FC of Calabar 7-0 in their round of 64 clash last weekend in Port Harcourt while Aklosendi made it to the round of 32 after knocking out FRSC FC 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.

Coach Abdu Maikaba who is expected to line up a strong squad for the game has declared that his team will not leave any stone unturned when they square up against NNL side in Enugu on Sunday.

“We are the defending champions of the Aiteo Cup and we want to defend our crown. The truth is that every team that want to play us will come with determination so we cannot afford to leave anything to chance.

” Cup competitions are usually very tough, full of surprises with lots of upsets, so our target is to give it our best irrespective of the opposition.

“The much we know about Aklosendi FC is that they are a good side but we are mentally and physically ready for the match knowing that a win will qualify us to the round of 16” said coach Maikaba.

The Promise Keepers who won the Federation Cup in 2015 and 2017 will be motivated by their round of 64 performance and the Seventy Million Naira Governor Udom Emmanuel splashed on them for winning last year’s edition of the competition.
