AKWA UTD BATTLE WARRIORS TO A GOALLESS DRAW IN UMUDIKE MFON PATRICK

There was nothing to separate Abia Warriors and Akwa United in what was their second pre-season friendly game in the space of 21 days as both sides played out a goalless draw at Demonstration Secondary school playground in Umudike, Saturday afternoon.

The hosts sat back and defended deep, failing to register any shot on target in the first half as the Promise Keepers dominated play but were unable to break the deadlock in an engaging encounter.

While Akwa United’s goalkeeper Godgift Elkananh was on holiday in the first half of the game, his opposite number Olufemi Thomas was the busiest making saves after saves to deny Ifeanyi Ogba, Ubong Friday and Onyekachi Nwaiwu from scoring albeit on a bumpy pitch.

On resumption of play, the Promise Keepers increased the tempo and pushed for the curtain raiser but Leonard Ugochukwu, Ifeanyi Ogba, Taiye Muritala and Olajuyin Kehinde all failed to hit the target.

It took the hosts 82 minutes of action to register a shot on target but substitute goalkeeper Jean Efala was in his element to make a save as both teams settled for a stalemate.

In the first installment of the pre-season friendly between the two sides in Uyo, Akwa United were 2-1 winners. With the goalless draw in Umudike, the Promise Keepers have improve their pre-season record to three wins, one draw and two loses.

They will continue their pre-season preparations in Uyo ahead of the resumption of the new season.
