Akwa United are the winners of the Akwa Ibom State FA Cup for a record nine times in ten years after their 2-0 victory over Cofine FC in the 2018 finals at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
The Promise Keepers went ahead in the 26th minute when Cofine goalkeeper Idongesit Peter fumbled in Gabriel Wassa’s cross. The defending champions doubled their lead in the 38th minute through Ifeanyi Ede who converted a penalty after Aniekeme Asuquo was brought down in the box by Idongesit Peter
The national champions were not under any form of threat from their opponents who were playing in the state finals for the first time in their history.
Akwa United who are the 2017 Aiteo Cup Champions scored eight goals in three matches on their way to defending the state trophy they won last year. Akwa United and Cofine FC will represent the state at the national FA (Aiteo) Cup competition later this year.
