AKWA UTD EXTENDS UNBEATEN RUN AS ATSHIMENE’S DOUBLE SINK DAKKADA

Akwa United recorded their 11th victory of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League season on Sunday with a 0-2 away win over neighbours Dakkada FC on Match-day 21 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Striker Charles Atshimene scored both goals in either half of the match – his 5th and 6th of the season. Atshimene gave his team the lead in the 10th minute when he smashed home Etim Mathew’s pass from close range. The striker doubled his team’s advantage early into the second half, finishing off a brilliant team move assisted by Akarandut Orok.

The victory extended the Promise Keepers unbeaten run in the league to eleven matches (7 wins and 4 draws) as they maintain their leadership position on the log with 40 points from 21 games and are top on superior goal difference over Kano Pillars.

Coach Kennedy Boboye in an exclusive post-match interview with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.com,congratulated his players on their third away victory of the season and explained that the result will motivate and boost the confidence level of his players as they continue their quest for a maiden NPFL title.

“I’m excited about this particular result and I want to really express my appreciation to my players for getting the tough job done because it wasn’t an easy game.

“The difference was that we were able to take our chances and we did it quite early into the game and after the restart. This is one victory that will certainly encourage and motivate us for the task ahead.

“As far as we are concerned, this game is done and dusted and our attention is now on our next game against Enugu Rangers. The season is becoming more interesting and competitive, and we need to be on top of our game in all our remaining matches to ensure we achieve our primary target this season”.

The Promise Keepers two goals against Dakkada increased their tally to 26 goals in 21 games and they will next host Enugu Rangers on Match-day 22 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Nest of Champions
