AKWA UTD SET TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST GO ROUND

After enduring their worst ever start to the Nigeria Professional Football League season, Two-Time Federation Cup Champions Akwa United will be aiming to return to winning ways on Sunday when they engage Go Round FC of Omoku on Matchday 6 at the Nest of champions.

The Promise Keepers are on two points from four matches, with two draws and two loses and they sit bottom of the twelve-team NPFL Group B table while their visitors this weekend Go Round FC are on 4th position on the log with 8points from five games.

Akwa United who finished second on the log last season are in desperate need of a win to boosts their morale for the task ahead. The team lost their last away game 2-0 to Nasarawa United in Lafia and were tongue lashed by the Chairman Elder Paul Bassey who called on the players and the technical crew to sit up and redouble their efforts to ensure the team regain her rightful position on the log.

Coach Rafael Everton’s team have scored three goals and have conceded six in their opening four matches of the season. Much will be expected from Mfon Udoh and Ndifreke Effiong as the Brazilian tactician will be urging his boys to fire from all angles to ensure they grab all three points on Sunday.

The Matchday 6 fixture between Akwa United and Go Round FC will be the third meeting between the two sides. Last season both sides enjoyed a 1-0 home win over each other. Victory for the Promise keepers on Sunday will move them to five points and out of the danger zone

Akwa United lone goal home defeat to El-Kanemi Warriors on the opening day of the season was their first lose at home in 33 matches. The team has no injury concerns ahead of the match as all the players are in good shape and were part of the training throughout the week.
