AKWA UTD SYMPATHIZE WITH HEARTLAND FC OVER THE TRAGIC DEATH OF COACH OBI

The Chairman and the entire Akwa United football family deeply sympathize with the management, staff and players of Heartland FC over the tragic death of their Chief coach Christian Obi in an auto crash on their way to Abakiliki to participate in a pre-season tournament.

In a reaction, Chairman of Akwa United Elder Paul Bassey described the sad incident as a “very unfortunate and a sad moment for the entire football fraternity in Nigeria”,

We are saddened by the news of this unfortunate incident which has claimed the life of coach Christian Obi. This is a big loss not only to Heartland FC and the people of Imo state but to the entire football family in Nigeria.

“It is unbelievable, heartbreaking and shocking to hear that the Heartland FC team bus was involved in an accident and that coach Obi lost his life while some players sustained various degrees of injuries in such a tragic manner.

” We wish to use this opportunity to call on the entire football family to unite in prayer for God to have mercy and protect us.

“All of us at Akwa United join the entire football family to pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of coach Christian Obi and for God to grant his family, Heartland FC and the good people of Imo the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss”.

Coach Obi who died at a hospital in Okwell, was in-charge of Heartland FC when they played the entire 2022-23 Nigeria National League season unbeaten which helped them to win the NNL Super 8 in Asaba as they made a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
