Nigeria Professional Football League Champions Akwa United Football Club will engage Algerian side CR Belouizdad in the first preliminary round of the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League in September.
Akwa United were drawn against the Algerian Champions on Friday during the draws at the CAF headquarters in Egypt.
The Promise Keepers will host the first leg at the Nest of Champions in the weekend of 10-12 September, while the return leg will take place in Algeria between 17-19 September, 2021.
The two-time Federation Cup Champions won the NPFL title for the first time in their history, after accumulating 71 points from 38 games comprising 19 victories, 14 draws with just five defeats, scoring 53 while conceding 24 goals.
It will be Akwa United’s first taste of action in CAF Champions League having previously featured twice in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2016 and 2018.
CR Belouizdad are currently leading the Algerian league on 70 points with three matches to the end of the season.
