WE ARE ON COURSE FOR MORE WINS-SETH MAYI

MFON PATRICK

Akwa United mercurial midfielder Seth Mayi says the reigning Champions are poised to maintain their impeccable home form and are determined to go for victory on Sunday when they face Sunshine Stars at the Nest of Champions.

The Promise Keepers have won all their three home games this season and are 6th on the log with ten points from six games albeit with a game in hand against Enyimba International.

Seth believes that the champions are in good shape going into this weekend’s game against Sunshine Stars who are a point and two places behind them on the log.

In an exclusive interview with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.com, Seth revealed that the focus of the team is on getting maximum points on Sunday as well as in subsequent games.

This is a new season and we don’t have to dwell on past glory.
The task before us this season is to ensure we record as many victories as we can.

“We have started very well especially at home this season and we are committed to continuing that winning mentality. We have played six matches already and many more still to come, so we are aware that it will be a long season and we are confident that we will pick important wins at home and away this campaign.

I can authoritatively say that we have put in everything to ensure we get the desired result this weekend. The atmosphere in camp is commendable and the encouragement from the management is wonderful. We are all ready to play and I’m optimistic that those that will be selected to represent the club on Sunday will deliver” Seth assured.

Akwa United enjoy a better head-to-head record against their match-day 8 opponent. The champions have recorded six wins, five draws and five loses in their sixteen previous meetings.

Sunshine Stars have managed just two points from their last eight visits to Uyo, losing six times including last season’s 2-1 defeat where Ikechukwu Nwani and Seth Mayi put them to the sword.

Captain Ubong Friday has scored in all three home games for the Promise Keepers and they have not conceded a goal at home this term. The Owena Whales on the other hand have picked up two draws from their three away matches this season, with their only defeat being a 1-0 defeat to Abia Warriors on match-day 2.

Coach Kennedy Boboye’s team received a major boost ahead of Sunday’s game with the return to full fitness of key players; defender Denis Nya, midfielder Dare Ojo and striker Stephen Chukwude.

The reigning Champions will be aiming to make it four wins from four home games on Sunday as they continue their quest for a successful title defense.
