Akwa United dependable defender Denis Nya has encouraged his team-mates to give maximum attention and concentration on the remaining five matches of the season to ensure the team secure one of the three playoffs spot in Group B.
Nya has been instrumental to the Promise Keepers’ impressive campaign having played in 16 of his side’s 17 league games so far this season.
The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner is part of coach Rafael Everton’s 18 man squad that will prosecute NPFL Matchday 18 game against Go Round in Omoku.
Speaking exclusively with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.net, the strong tackling centre-back re-emphasised the need for him and his team-mates to redouble their efforts to ensure the team achieve her target this season.
“The abridged version of the league we play this season has been very tough because it’s requires maximum concentration. We had a difficult start to the season but we bounced back to where we are today, so we have to give our very best in every match.
“There is no doubt that the remaining five matches will be crucial for all the teams but I know that we have some of the best players in this league and that gives us additional advantage and we have to make it count. We have to channel all our attention, concentrations and focus to the remaining fixtures starting from this game against Go Round.
“As far as the top three position in our Group is concerned, I can say that we have our destiny in our own hands. All what we need to do is to remain professionally disciplined and focused to ensure we finish strong,” he said.
Nya has scored four goals in all competitions for Akwa United since making a switch from Lobi Stars to Akwa United at the start of the 2017-18 season.
Leaders Akwa United who are on 31 points after 17 rounds of matches could extend their lead on top of Group B, if they avoid defeat against sixth placed Go Round on Wednesday.
In their three previous encounters, United have recorded two victories while the Omoku-based side managed just one win last season.
Akwa United’s forward and League top scorer with nine goals, Mfon Udoh, will be aiming to hit double figures when the game kicks off by 15:00 GMT (4pm Nigerian time) at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium in Omoku.
