Akwa United Football Club came from behind twice, through Ndifreke Effiong’s goals, to rescue a crucial point in a thrilling 2-2 draw against neighbours, Dakkada FC in a reschduled NPFL Matchday 30 encounter at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo, Wednesday.

The Promise Keepers fell behind in the 9th minute when Effiong Moses’ shot was deflected into the net after goalkeeper Jean Efala had spilled the initial free-kick.

Coach Boboye’s men had two attempts to restore parity in the 15th and 19th minute but Ifeanyi Eze and Ndifreke Effiong missed both chances.

Akwa United got back on level terms through striker Ndifreke Effiong who converted from the spot after he was brought down in the box by Lateef Babalola.

Moments later, Effiong was presented with a golden opportunity to increase his team’s tally after goalkeeper Edafe was spotted out of his line following a poor clearance but the striker’s looping attempt was cleared off the line by Francis Odinaka as both teams went into the break on level terms.

Coach Boboye made two early substitutions in the second half when he replaced Ifeanyi Eze and Akarandut Orok with Dare Ojo and Michale Ohanu. But it was Dakkada FC that went in front with Eso Achibong’s superb strike in the 78th minute following a swift counter attacking play.

With time running out, Akwa United piled pressure on their visitors and pushed for the much needed equalizer. They got their due reward with barely a minute to the end of the game when Ndifreke Effiong rose the highest to nod home Morice Chukwu’s delightful free-kick into the net to snatch a point for his side as the game ended in a 2-2 draw. It was the third draw in a row for Akwa United after two goalless draw against FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Enugu Rangers on Match-days 18 and 19.

Effiong who scored six goals in last season’s abridge league, has now scored eight goals so far this season for Akwa United.

With the result, Akwa United is placed 6th with 29 points from 20 NPFL games and will travel to Enugu this weekend for a date with Rangers International
