Coach Rafael Everton and striker Ndifreke Effiong will lead Akwa United to Umuahia on Thursday to hunt their former club Abia Warriors in a crucial Matchday 9 fixture of the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL.

Coach Everton had a brife stint with Abia Warriors in 2017 while striker Ndifreke had a wonderful time with the Umuahia based side for five seasons before joining his state team this year.

The Promise Keepers will go into the game on the back of three consecutive wins and will be seeking to continue their dominance over Abia Warriors who are without a win against them in their last four encounters.

Coach Rafael Everton’s team who thrashed Kada City 4-0 in their last game have scored eleven goals in their last seven matches with Mfon Udoh and Ndifreke Effiong scoring 8 of those goals. They are 4th on the Nigeria Professional Football League Group B table with 11 points and will be seeking to continue their fine run of form in Umuahia as they hope to further move up the table.

United have kept three clean sheets and scored eight goals in their last three games. Victory for the Promise Keepers in Umuahia could see them move up to 3rd on the log if other results go their way.

Speaking ahead of the game, Coach Everton revealed that his boys are gradually getting used to his game philosophy and said that his target is to pick the maximum points in Umuahia.

“We are very happy with our recent results. We started the season in a terrible way but we are beginning to get it right because my players are now adapting to my game plan as it is evident on our position on the log.

“The match against Abia warriors Will be a tough game because they a good side but I personally have a mission to accomplish in Umuahia and that is to ensure we get all three points. So my boys will have to ensure they reproduce the same form that has helped us in our last three matches”.

The match which was originally fixed for Wednesday was shifted to Thursday by the League Management Company LMC and it will kick off by 4pm.
