FIRST AWAY POINT EXCITES BOBOYE

Head Coach of Akwa United Kennedy Boboye says he is not disappointed with his team’s 1-1 draw with Kwara United on Match-day 4 of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League, despite admitting it was a game his team should have won comfortably.

The Promise Keepers put up a brave performance and fought back from a goal down to secure a vital point, their first away from home this season, against Kwara United on Wednesday in Ilorin.

After a goalless first half, Christopher Nwanze converted a penalty in the 62nd minute to put the hosts in front. Moments later, Nwanze turned from hero to villain when he directed Ubong Friday’s header into his own net as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

Coach Boboye praised his boys for playing according to instruction, but lamented their poor finishing abilities in front of goal, describing it as worrisome.

“We came here with the intention of picking maximum points but we are happy that we have been able to get something out of this game. This point is very vital and will help improve our confidence level going forward.

“The boys played well just like in all our previous matches. We were in control of the game and victory was within our reach. The only notable challenge we have is goal scoring. This is a game we should have won comfortably by at least three or more goals but we didn’t just take our chances.

“The good news is that we have been able to observe these lapses early enough and we hope to address it before long. This result is not a bad one considering the fact that it was our second away game of the season and we will continue to work hard to get more positive results”.

The Promise Keepers who dominated play against their hosts created and missed lots of good goal scoring opportunities. Top striker Ndifreke Effiong missed two clear cut chances, Wilson Elu, Morice Chukwu, Ikechukwu Nwani and Kodjovi Dadzie all failed to convert their chances but did well to secure a vital point for their team.

The result sees Akwa United move one place down from 11 to 12 on the log with 5 points from four games and they will next engage Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in Uyo on Sunday.
