FRIDAY, OLISEMA HUMBLE ENYIMBA IN PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY

Ubong Friday and Cyril Olisema came off the bench to score two goals in the space of three minutes to help Akwa United to a comfortable win over ten man Enyimba international in a pre-season friendly at the Nest of champions in Uyo on Tuesday.

The friendly was the team’s last pre-season engagement before the commencement of the 2018/2019 NPFL season scheduled to kickoff this weekend.

Coach Rafael Everton listed twenty players including nine new signings for the match and they all put up a spectacular performance to record a 2-0 victory.

Last year’s CAF Confederation Cup semi finalist Enyimba fielded a star-studded side as both teams sized up each other in the early moments of the game.

The Promise Keepers first chance of the game fell to former Enyimba Captain Mfon Udoh but his well struck effort was parried to safety by Ghanaian international goalkeeper Dauda Fatau.

Early injury to striker Ndifreke Effiong saw him replaced by Ubong Friday. Mfon Udoh and Alberico Da Silva both came close to getting the curtain raiser but Dauda was equal to the task. The visitors’ best chance went to Freedom Omofoman whose shot rattled the woodwork as both teams went into the break on level terms after an engaging first half.

Coach Everton introduced Cyril Olisema early into the second half and the midfielder combined neatly with Emeka Atuloma and Alberico Da Silva to release Mfon Udoh on the right flank.

The former Captain of Enyimba outpaced his marker and round the goalkeeper before dropping for Ubong Friday to tap into an empty net.

Three minutes later, Mfon Udoh tormented Enyimba’s defense again and picked out Olisema whom calmly lobbed the ball over Dauda into the net for Akwa United’s second goal of the match.

The Promise Keepers controlled proceedings and created many more chances but failed to capitalise on them. Enyimba’s only real chance in the second half was tipped against the post in a match they were on the back foot especially in the second half.

The victory was Akwa United’s fourth victory in six Pre-Season matches as they hope to mount a serious NPFL title challenge in the 2018/2019 season. The Uyo based side will begin their new season campaign against El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday at the Nest of champions.
