GODSPOWER SHOOTS AKWA UTD TO FA CUP VICTORY

Aniefiok Godspower scored a 46th minute goal to help Akwa United claim the 2019 Akwa Ibom State FA Cup beating Cofine FC 1-0 in the final match played at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo on Sunday.

The pulsating encounter was a repeat of last year’s State final in which the Promise Keepers also won. Akwa United booked their place in the final after a 8-3 demolition of Palm Tigers of Abak in the second semi finals while the Nationwide league side Cofine FC secured their spot after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Akwa Starlet in the first semi final.

But Aniefiok Godspower’s delightful goal in the first minute of the second half was all that the Promise Keepers needed to continue their dominance in the state competition as they lift their tenth FA Cup title in twelve years.

Both sides began the game with great determination and created some good scoring chances but were unable to convert them. Cofine FC goalkeeper Idongesit Peter put up a spectacular performance throughout the match, making some breathtaking saves. Peter made more than eight point blank saves from NPFL top scorer Mfon Udoh.

After a goalless first half, the Promise Keepers stepped up their game and deservedly took the lead inside the opening minutes of the second half and held on to defend their crown.

Both Akwa United and Cofine FC will fly Akwa Ibom State flag in this year’s nigeria Football Federation/ Aiteo Cup competition in which the winner will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup later this year.
