IKECHUKWU NWANI DEDICATES GOAL TO TEAMMATES

MFON PATRICK

Akwa United’s striker Ikechukwu Nwani has dedicated his winning goal against MFM on Match-day 17 to his teammates whom he said have always been very encouraging and supportive.

Nwani’s second half goal – his first for the Promise Keepers since joining the club in the mid-season transfer window of 2019/2020 NPFL season, sealed maximum points for Coach Boboye’s side their second away win of the season.

Nwani, in an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, www.akwaunitedfc.com, disclosed that he is relieved to have scored his first goal for Akwa United and promised to score more.

“I can’t explain how I felt after scoring that goal against MFM at Agege Stadium on Sunday. That goal means so much to me and I’m particularly very happy that it was enough to earn us all three points.

“When I arrived Akwa United in the middle of last season, Injury restricted me to only few games before the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. And since the beginning of this season, I have been playing very well in many matches I should have scored but I didn’t score.

“At some point I was asking myself series of questions about my contribution to the team, but I thank God for the kind of teammates I have, sometimes after match, they will come and encourage me not to worry that my goals will soon flow.

“Before the start of that match, I told myself that if I don’t score, I will do my best to assist others. When I gave Mfon Udoh the pass to score I was already satisfied. And in the second half, Ndifreke Effiong saw me making runs and he passed it to me. I think I had two or three defenders on me, and I told myself to be calm, and every other thing I needed to do went well just as I wanted and I scored.

“You could see the joy on the faces of my teammates and the celebration that followed when I scored that goal. I’m dedicating the goal to my teammates and all the fans of Akwa United, and I pray for God’s grace to score more goals for this team”.

Ikechukwu Nwani thanked Coach Kennedy Boboye for the trust and confidence in him and hinted that his goal against MFM is one of many more to come.
