I’M BACK AND BETTER___AKARANDUT OROK
MFON PATRICK
Head Coach Kennedy Boboye will have more attacking options to choose from on Sunday, January 26, 2020, following the return to action of top striker Akarandut Orok from a minor injury which kept him out of the team’s last two NPFL games agianst Kwara United and Kano Pillars.
Akwa United, 7th on the log, look set to bounce back to winning ways this weekend when they engage 9th placed Heartland FC of Owerri in an NPFL Matchday 17 match scheduled to take place at the iconic Godswill Akpabio international stadium – Nest of Champions – in Uyo.
Orok who netted four goals in four consecutive matches – Dakkada FC, Rivers United, Jigawa Golden Stars and Lobi Stars – sustained a minor injury in the first half of Akwa United’s goalless draw with Plateau United in Jos in early January, but the striker who took part in all the team’s training sessions this week told the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.net that he is 100% fit and ready to give his best if selected to play at anytime.
“Yes, I have fully recovered from the injury that kept me out for sometime now. I really worked hard to get myself back into top shape and I can say that I’m back and better, I am 100% fit and ready to go. I have attended all training sessions this week and if I will be considered to play, I’m fully ready to give my best.
“We have gone three matches without a win and without a goal, that is not good enough for us as a team, we need to fight for every available points and on Sunday, I can’t see how Heartland will escape defeat here in Uyo.
Reacting to rumours that he shoulders the burden of scoring goals for Akwa United, Orok said;
“As a striker, my work is to score goals for my team, but I’d prefer my team to win all her matches irrespective of the scorer. We always play to win as a team and not to play for one person to score. I’m particularly happy that Coach Boboye is building a formidable team in which every player is a scorer,” noted the former league top scorer.
Akarandut Orok and Ndifreke Effiong are the club’s leading scorer this season with four goals apiece.
Last season, the Promise Keepers defeated Heartland FC home and away, and they will be aiming to continue their dominance over the Owerri based side.
Coach Boboye may likely unleash some of his newly signed players (Olisa Ndah, Ukeme Williams, Arinze Nwangwu, Ikechukwu Nwani, Ifeanyi Eze and Salisu Saidu) on their visitors on Sunday as they hope to further move up the table and close the gap on joint leaders Plateau United and Lobi Stars.
