Head Coach of Akwa United Muhammed Babaganaru has attributed his team’s 0-1 home defeat to Doma United to hard luck, stressing that his players didn’t make the most of their many goal scoring chances.
Emmanuel Jesam’s 8th minute goal secured all three points for Doma United as they recorded a home and away win over Akwa United after winning the first leg by the same scoreline at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
In a match that the 2021 champions dominated throughout, coach Muhammed Babaganaru believed his team should have made the most of their scoring opportunities.
“The outcome of this match is not what we planned. Our expectation was to use this game to consolidate on the last result we had in Jos but that is football for you. I can’t believe that we didn’t score from all the chances we created in the match. I came here hoping to win this game and move the team out of the relegation zone but it turned out this way, it’s not the result we expected.
“The boys played very well and created many chances, but we were unable to convert those chances and we got punished for those missed opportunities. I wouldn’t know if my players were overconfident or whether they underrated their opponents. Despite not winning this game, we have taken lots of positives from this game and I’m sure it will really help us in the remaining matches of the season”.
The result means that Akwa United stay in 18th position on the log with 31 points from 28 matches and will next travel to Ikenne to tackle Remo Stars on Matchday 29 fixture this weekend.
