Youngster Leo Ezekiel came off the bench and uniquely introduced himself at the biggest stage of club football in Nigeria, scoring the all important goal to help Akwa United beat Niger Tornadoes by a lone goal, to record their first away win of the season at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on match-day 9.
Leo, who joined the reigning Champions at the start of the season, came on as a second half substitute replacing Stephen Chukwude in the 63rd minute. The youngster had two good chances to give his team lead but couldn’t direct his efforts on target.
In the 69th minute, Leo captured his moment when he received a great pass from captain Ubong Friday. He turned smartly before firing a shot beyond the reach of goalkeeper George Michael to score the first professional goal of his career.
Speaking exclusively with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.com Leo said he is excited scoring his first goal for Akwa United and expressed appreciation to coach Kennedy Boboye and his teammates for their support.
“This is undeniably the most happiest day of my life. It’s a dream come true for me to have scored my first professional goal. playing for Akwa United in the Nigeria Professional Football League is something that I will cherish for a very long time.
“The goal I scored has increased my confidence and it will motivate me to do more. Now that I have opened my goal account, I will continue to work hard to ensure I score more goals for my team.

The win in Abuja was Akwa United’s sixth victory over Niger Tornadoes in nine meetings in the NPFL.
The champions are 7th on the log with 14 points from nine games. They will next face Kwara United on match-day 10 on Wednesday in Uyo.
