NO ESCAPE ROUTE FOR RANGERS – UBONG FRIDAY

MFON PATRICK

Captain of Akwa United FC Ubong Friday says the reigning champions are in top shape for their match-day 18 tie against Enugu Rangers, and assured that their opponents will not escape defeat in Uyo.

Friday who has scored three goals already this season is expected to lead his teammates against the Flying Antelopes on Sunday when both teams clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in what will be one of the mouthwatering fixtures of the weekend.

The captain in an exclusive interview with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.com assured that no stone will be left unturned when they welcome their former coach Abdul Maikaba and his new team Enugu Rangers.

“As a team, we have resolved that nothing will be left to chance and we are committed and determined to go for the maximum points. So, the match against Rangers on Sunday is a must-win game for us.

“We have put in lot of energy in training because we know we have to be at our very best to ensure we get the desired result on Sunday. We have dropped six points at home this season and we took a decision to maximize our home advantage and give our fans something to cheer about.

“Rangers have picked some important results on the road this season and we know what they are capable of doing. They forced us to goalless draws in their last two visits to Uyo but that is about to change this time around because they are in our own den where we have enjoyed an overwhelming support from our fans. With such encouragement and motivation we have to reciprocate by making sure we get a positive result on Sunday”.

The Promise Keepers are 6th on the log with 27 points from 17 matches while their match-day 18 opponents stay in 4th place with 28 points from the same number of matches.

The champions have recorded five victories and three draws in their last eight home games, scoring 12 and conceded three goals while Rangers have picked up two wins, five draws and one defeat in their eight away games scoring seven and conceded four goals.

The Promise Keepers have enjoyed an impeccable home form and are undefeated in their last 27 matches at the Nest of Champions comprising 21 victories and six draws. Victory against Rangers will push the Champions further up the log.
