NPFL: AKWA UTD TO ENGAGE LOBI STARS IN LEAGUE OPENER

Akwa United will kick start their 2024-25 campaign in the Nigeria Premier Football League with an away fixture against Lobi Stars in their adopted home ground at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium in Bauchi on Sunday September 8, 2024.

Following the return of Nasarawa United to the premier league, report has it that Lobi Stars have concluded plans to relocate to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium in Bauchi where they will play their home matches pending the completion of their stadium in Makurdi.

The fixtures for the new season was conducted by the league organizers in Abuja, Tuesday during the Annual General Meeting of the league body which was attended by members and executives of the Club Owners Association alongside major football stakeholders in the country.

The full fixtures for Matchday 1 shows that Champions Enugu Rangers will host newly promoted El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in what will be the star match of the weekend.

Another newly promoted side Beyond Limit will face Enyimba International in Ikenne. Plateau United will remain in Jos to welcome Katsina United, while Kano Pillars will engage Ikorodu City at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano.

In the just concluded season the 2021 league champions – Akwa United did the double over Lobi Stars
beating the Makrudi based club 1-0 in Eket and 2-1 in the reverse fixture in their adopted home ground in Lafia.

The Promise Keepers ended the campaign in 16th position, one place and three points above relegation zone and will be fully prepared to hit the ground running as they hope to stage a title challenge in the new season.
