Two-time Federation Cup Champions Akwa United and last season’s champions Lobi Stars laboured to a goalless draw on Matchday 4 at that the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League Super-Six Championship play-offs at the Agege stadium in Lagos on Monday.
Despite the stalemate, the Promise Keepers maintain their third position on the log with six points from four games, after picking up one win and three draws in their four games played so far at the championship play-offs.
The Uyo based side went into the game against Lobi Stars needing a win to go joint top with Kano Pillars who drew with Enugu Rangers in the first match of the day, but they pegged back by the team from Benue state.
Both teams started slowly but later picked up the pace in a game that both teams created many scoring chances but failed to convert them. Lobi Star’s best chance fell for Samuel Mathias whose long range strike crashed aginst the crossbar in the first half.
Coach Rafael Everton’s men had two clear cut opportunities in the first half to take the lead, Aniefiok Godspower’s effort from Wisdom Fernando’s cross was scramble out by Olufemi Kayode, while,  Marshal Johnson’s header from Cyril Olisema’s delivery from a corner kick narrowly missed the target.
The Promise Keepers misses continued in the second half, Wisdom Fernando and Mfon Udoh failed to convert their many chances. The team’s best chance went to Ndifreke Effiong. The hardworking striker saw his attempt from a free-kick crashed against the crossbar, before Denis Nya’s header from Mfon Udoh’s delightful cross from a corner kick sailed over the bar.
With three points behind leaders Enyimba international, and two adrift of second placed Kano Pillars, the Promise Keepers will be aiming for a positive result in their last game and victory on Wednesday against Enyimba will secure them one of the three continental tickets for next football season.
