Akwa United centre-back Sampson Gbadebo has declared that they will claim all three points against Katsina United when both teams clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.

The match-day 6 tie which was originally fixed for Sunday, January 16th has been brought forward to Saturday, 15th January by the league organisers and will kickoff at 2pm

The Promise Keepers suffered back-to-back defeats on match-day 4 and 5 away to Nasarawa United and Lobi Stars but Gbadebo said they have resolved to return to winning ways this weekend.

“Saturday’s game is a crucial match and we are ready to step out and prove our worth while making our fans proud. We have put the disappoinment of two successive defeats behind us and our focus is to make the most out of our subsequent games starting with this game against Katsina United.

“As champions, we have observed that every team that wants to play against us always want to prove a point, that is why we don’t have to gamble with our chances, as professionals, we have to approach all our matches with a good game plan.

“As far as this match is concerned, there will be no escape route for Katsina United, because our victory is non-negotiable. Our home form has been very impressive and we have determined to continue with that run because victory on Saturday will move up to a comfortable position on the table”.

Gbadebo joined Akwa United in the 2019/2020 football season and has three goals under his Kitty in two seasons. The defender was instrumental in last season’s title winning campaign.

The reigning Champions are 7th on the log with 7 points from five games comprising two wins two loses and one draw. Coach Kennedy Boboye’s team will move up to second on the log if they win on Saturday against 13th placed Katsina United.

Katsina United have suffered three loses so far this season, losing 3-0 against Rivers United in Port Harcourt, and 1-0 against Shooting Stars as well as opening day defeat at home to Enugu Rangers.

In the seven previous meetings between Akwa United and Katsina United, both teams have recorded two wins apiece while three of those matches ended in draws. The visitors have lost twice and managed to pick just a point in their last three visits to Uyo.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at Two O’clock in the afternoon at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
