NPFL: WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN THE WINNING MENTALITY __BOBOYE

MFON PATRICK

Head coach of Akwa United Kennedy Boboye has inspired his players to approach their Match-day 10 clash against Nasarawa United with the same winning mentality which saw them win their last three league games.

The Promise Keepers, sixth on the log with 15 points from nine matches, will be aiming to extend their winning streak when they engage eighth-placed Nasarawa United who have lost their last three games and have 14 points from nine matches.

Coach Boboye, who wants his team to keep winning, has tasked his players to exhibit positive mental attitude in Lafia on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the Matchday 10 encounter, coach Boboye said:

“I’m very proud of my players because they are committed and determined to play and get the needed result. It has taken us some time but we are beginning to get the right attitude and character that we need for the task ahead.

“At the moment, our focus is on the match against Nasarawa United. We know it’s going to be a tough one, but we have to go into the game with the same winning mentality we have shown in our recent matches. We are going to Lafia to fight for maximum points and my players are in top shape to give their all.”

The Promise Keepers will look to continue their impressive run and dominance over their hosts — having won six, drawn eight and lost five in their previous 19 league matches against the Lafia side. Last season, it ended one apiece in Uyo and goalless in Lafia between the two sides.

The two-time Federation Cup champions have scored ten goals and conceded six in their opening nine matches. Razor-sharp striker Ndifreke Effiong has been prolific in front of goal, scoring six of those goals. Strike partners Mfon Udoh and Charles Atshimene have two and one respectively.

Coach Boboye has listed youngster Godswill Nicholas in his 20-man squad after the forward made his debut as a substitute on matchday 9 against Katsina United in Uyo last weekend.
