OLORUNLEKE APOLOGIZES TO FANS, TEAM MATES FOR ERROR

Akwa United goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke has tendered an unreserved apology to his team mates and fans of the club for his costly mistake that caused his team’s 0-1 home defeat against El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri on Matchday 1 of the 2018/2019 NPFL season.

Olorunleke in an ambitious attempt to push his team forward in Injury-time, was robbed of the ball in the midfield which resulted in the opponent’s winning goal.

The goalkeeper told the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.net that the mistake was not intentional and that he is sorry for the team’s lost.

“I am terribly sorry for the mistake I made during the Injury-time of our match against El Kanemi. It was not my intention to let myself,my team and the fans down.

“I only wanted to help push my team forward to see if we could get a goal in the match. Time was running out and it was a game we needed to win to put ourselves up on the log on the opening weekend but it turned out to be a devastating blow to me as a person and to my team-mates and all our fans and supporters.

“I am deeply sorry and I promised that such mistake will not happen again and I wish to assure everyone that I am always ready to give my all for this team and I want to assure us that we will end this season on a high”.

Ojo Olorunleke has been the Promise Keepers number one goalkeeper since joining the club from Sunshine Stars in 2017 season and was the hero in his team’s CAF Confederation Cup second round match against Al-Ittihad of Libya when he saved three spotkicks.
