Head coach of Akwa United Football Club Muhammed Baba Ganaru says his players are committed and ready to fight for maximum three points against Abia Warriors on Sunday and added that victory in Uyo is non-negotiable.
Coach Baba Ganaru in an exclusive interview with the club’s website www.akwaunitedfc.com revealed that his team will have to be in top shape and play with confidence and determination to ensure victory is recorded on Sunday.
Akwa United played out a goalless draw with Lobi Stars on matchday 1 in Lafia and will be filing out for their first home game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium against neighbours Abia Warriors who lost their first match 0-2 at home to Remo Stars.
“The game against Abia Warriors will be our first home match of the season and we know that it will be a tough game but we are committed and ready to fight for all three points because this is a must-win game for us.
” We have to consolidate on the one point we picked in Lafia by ensuring that we win on Sunday. As we begin this season, we don’t have to leave any stone unturned and we have to hit the ground running from the blast of the whistle.
“We have done a lot of work in the team, we trust that the boys know the importance of starting well and we are optimistic that my players will be in top shape to deliver on Sunday”.
In the 19 previous meetings between Akwa United and Abia Warriors, the Promise Keepers enjoyed four victories to the visitors five while ten of those games ended in draws. Last season Akwa United recorded a 3-1 win in Eket before losing 2-0 in the reverse fixture in Umuahia.
Both teams are yet to score after their first outing and will be eager to hit the back of the net on Sunday.
The match which is scheduled to kick-off by Three O’clock in the afternoon (3:00pm) will be broadcast live on television and there will also be live text commentary on all Akwa United’s social media platforms.
