Following Akwa United’s goalless draw against hosts Kano Pillars at the Muhammadu Dikko stadium in Katsina, head Coach of the team Ayodeji Ayeni says he is impressed with his team’s performance and explained that they will soon return to winning ways.
Coach Ayodeji Ayeni in an exclusive interview with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.com maintained that he has a fair knowledge of his players’ capabilities after guiding them to two successive draws in less than a week since taking charge of the reigning Champions.
Akwa United came from behind to play a 1-1 draw against Rivers United on Sunday and three days later, they were held to a goalless draw by Kano Pillars on match-day 21 in Katsina.
According to coach Ayeni, “I must say that I have seen my players responding positively and playing according to instructions. They put up a strong and wonderful performance and came out with a point in two successive games. All I can say is that, it can only get better as far as we continue with this mentality.
“We went into the two matches with the hope of winning and my player knew what was at stake and they worked really hard throughout the match. We need to continue addressing all the observed lapses especially concerning our finishing and that is how we will move out of where we are at the moment.
“With these two matches we have played, I can say that I know the strength of each player in the team and I’m satisfied that we are improving gradually and I’m optimistic that we are going to get it right soon enough”.
The reigning Champions Akwa United are 8th on the NPFL log with 29 points from 21 matches comprising seven victories, eight draws and six loses.
The Promise Keepers will next host Shooting Stars Sports Club at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday 10th April 2022.
