Akwa United’s Head Coach Kennedy Boboye has admitted that his team didn’t make the most of their chances as they were forced to a goalless draw at home by Enugu Rangers on Matchday 19 at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo, Sunday.
The Promise Keepers were hoping to pick maximum points against Rangers but their efforts were repeatedly frustrated by some resolute defending by Rangers backline and the brilliance of goalkeeper Japhet Opubo.
Coach Boboye in a post-match press conference said “It’s unbelievable that we didn’t score after such a wonderful performance agianst Rangers. We played very well and created plethora of chances and in all honesty, it was a game we should have won but we didn’t just take our chances.
“All what we needed was to be calm in front of goal. I’m impressed with our performance but the result is not what we wanted especially playing at home.
” Rangers is a big team and they came here with a game plan, which was to defend, but throughout 90 minutes, the game was within our reach, but we couldn’t take it. That’s football, we have to turn our attention to upcoming fixtures and continue to work to ensure we get it right in our next outing”
Rangers goalkeeper Japhet Opubo was at his best to frustrate all Akwa United’s attacking moves and in the process denied Ndifreke Effiong, Morice Chukwu, Ali Chiwendu, Ubong Friday and Akarandut Orok from scoring.
The goalless draw against Enugu Rangers was the fifth game in which the Promise Keepers failed to pick maximum points in their ten home games after the first stanza of the current NPFL season.
With the result, Akwa United remain 6th on the log with 28 points from 19 games and will next engage neighbours Dakkada FC on Wednesday at the Nest of champions.
