Akwa United’s razor-sharp striker Ndifreke Effiong has revealed reasons he celebrated his two goals against Katsina United with the club’s Chairman Elder Paul Bassey.
Effiong netted twice, his 5th and 6th of the season and ran out of the field on both occasions to celebrate with the club’s boss.
The striker in an exclusive chat with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.com Ndifreke described Elder Paul Bassey as a source of his inspiration and motivation.
“Since I joined Akwa United, the chairman has been my source of inspiration and his dedication to the success of the team is second to none.
“The Chairman talk to us almost everytime, he doesn’t miss our training sessions, he relates very well with all the players and encourages us to do our best. He maintained a father/child relationship with everyone at the club and above all, the welfare of the players is his topmost priority.
“In my opinion, I think we the players and officials are the ones owing the chairman because he has provided everything for this team, so, we don’t have any excuse but to deliver.
“Everytime I stepped on the pitch, I always want to do my best and to score as many goals as possible to help Akwa United achieve her target. And that is the only way I think I can repay the chairman for all his love, care and words of encouragement he has given to me and the entire team”.
Ndifreke has scored six of Akwa United’s ten goals this season. The striker scored eleven goals last season and got six in his first season with the Promise Keepers after joining the club from Abia Warriors in the 2018/2019 NPFL season.
