Akwa United U-15 team will slug it out with Heartland FC, Lobi Stars and MFM U-15 teams for the two available semi final tickets in Group A at the quarter final stage at the ongoing 2021 LaLiga/NPFL U-15 championship taking place in Enugu.
The Junior Promise Keepers made it to the quarter final stage as group winners with seven points following two victories and one draw in their three 1st round games in which they scored two and conceded no goal.
The Championship organisers LaLiga/NPFL at a draw ceremony divided the eight qualified teams into two groups of four teams each, with the top two from each group making it to the semi final.
Akwa United will begin their quest for one of the two semi final tickets with a tie against Lobi Stars on Monday 26th April, 2021. They will face MFM on Tuseday 27th before taking on Heartland FC on Wednesday 28th of April, 2021 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Assessing his team’s chances in the group, Coach of Akwa United U-15 Team Edward Edemekong says his boys will not gamble with their chances and will go all out for victories in all their matches.
“Our experiences in all our three group matches will really shape the approach with which we are going to play our subsequent games. Football at this (U-15) level is relatively different and the boys are playing with lots of excitement and determination.
“Now that we know that we have just three games to get to the last four, I believe that my players will put in everything to ensure we achieve our aim which will also speak well for their future”.
Akwa United U-15 on Friday defeated the state’s female team Ibom Angels 2-1 in a friendly game played at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. The match was part of the team’s preparation ahead of their quarter final group clash next week.
