SETH MAYI IN CLOUD NINE AFTER OPENING HIS AKWA UTD’S GOAL ACCOUNT

MFON PATRICK

Akwa United’s midfielder Seth Mayi can’t hide his joy and excitement after scoring his first-ever goal in the Nigeria Professional Football League, which was also his first goal for the Promise Keepers since joining the club at the start of this season.

Mayi netted the winning goal on Sunday in Akwa United’s 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars on Match-day 20 to send the two-time Federation Cup Champions to the pinnacle of the NPFL table on superior goal difference.

The attacking midfielder was recently voted the club’s best midfielder of the first stanza of the season after putting up impressive performances in all nineteen first-round games for coach Boboye’s team.

The former Plateau United and Remo Stars midfielder said he can’t stop reflecting on the moment he scored his first professional career goal.

“I can’t explain how I felt when I scored that goal. It’s certainly one of those special moments in my career that I will remember for a long time to come.

“The match against Sunshine Stars wasn’t my best game since joining Akwa United. I have played some great football for this team but I wasn’t able to score, so having scored the winning goal, I’m grateful to God and I will forever cherish that moment.

“Few days ago, I was honoured with an award of excellence as the best midfielder after the first stanza of the season and I knew that it was a call for me to give my best for this great club. Now that I have scored my first goal, the motivation is there and I’m confident that I will score more as we continue to push for the league title which is our target this season.

“I wish to dedicate this goal to Coach Kennedy Boboye for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to play for a big club like Akwa United. I also want to appreciate the efforts of my team-mates who have always supported me since I arrived at this club. I want to assure everyone at Akwa United that I will continue to do my best to ensure we achieve our primary target this season”.

Seth Mayi, a former national U-23 midfielder, now, has one goal with two assists, and has played in all twenty matches for Akwa United this season.
