The chairman, management, staff and players of Akwa United Football Club have congratulated Enyimba International of Aba for winning the 2023 NPFL title.
Enyimba International emerged champions of the just concluded abridged league season after picking up nine points from five playoff matches to finish on the same points as Remo Stars and Rivers United but came out tops courtesy of superior goal aggregate.
Chairman of Akwa United in a message of felicitation to the new champions, described Enyimba International as a team with character and determination that truly deserve this year’s NPFL title.
“On behalf of Akwa United Football Club, we wish to congratulate Enyimba International Football Club for winning the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League title.
“Enyimba International showed character and determination in what was a very tight and competitive race in Group A to secure a playoff spot on goal difference ahead of 2021 champions Akwa United.
The Aba based team continued their doggedness in the playoffs to come out as champions in the same fashion they ended the regular season. I must admit that the Peoples Elephant really demonstrated their character and truly deserve the crown.
“As champions of NPFL we wish Enyimba International as well as Remo Stars and Rivers United successful outing in next year’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions”.
Elder Paul Bassey who was also the chairman of the local Organizing Committee for the Super-Six championship playoff expressed appreciation to God for the successful end to the 2022-23 football league season.
The IMC Vice-chairman commended all the participating teams for their spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition which has been adjudged as the best organised NPFL season in recent history.
Enyimba captured their 9th league title on Sunday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena , Onikan stadium in Lagos after recording two wins and three draws in five playoff games.
