NPFL: AKWA UTD SUFFERS FIRST LOSS AT PANTAMI STADIUM IN 9 YEARS

Akwa United’s 1-0 defeat to Doma United on Matchday 8 of the 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League season brought to an end their impressive unbeaten run of five games at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

The Promise Keepers had previously enjoyed two wins and three draws against Gombe United and Adamawa United, the two teams they had faced at the Pantami Stadium with their only previous defeat dated back to August 2014 when they lost 2-0 to Gombe United.

The defeat on Saturday against Doma United – a team they were playing for the first time in the NPFL, was the Promise Keepers first loss at the venue in nine years as they endured a difficult start to the new season.

Nelson Abiam’s first half goal off a corner kick condemned coach Fatai Osho’s team to their third defeats in eight games played so far this season, leaving the 2021 champions deep in the danger zone on the log with just seven points from a possible 24 having only one win, four draws with three defeats.

The team returned to their base in Uyo and have started preparations ahead of their weekend’s match against Remo Stars scheduled for Saturday 18, November 2023 at four O’clock in the afternoon at the Eket Stadium and the match will be broadcast live on Star Times Television.
