SPORTS COMMISSIONER CHARGES AKWA UNITED COACH TO GO FOR TROPHY

Akwa United Head Coach Fatai Osho has been told to leave no stone unturned in the bid to win the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier League Trophy.

As far as the domestic league is concerned, Akwa United is a Premium brand hungry for success and you must endeavor to leave no stone unturned as we strive to win the current league that is about to start in a few day Sir Monday Ebong Uko said.

In a meeting he had with the newly signed coach, the Commissioner for Youth Development and sports welcomed coach Fatai to Akwa Ibom and promised all the necessary cooperation that will facilitate his task.

We will go out of our way to provide you with all you need to succeed so that excuses will not be tolerated at any point in time.

“Akwa Ibomites are hungry for the repeat of the 2021 feat and you come with glowing pedigree and track record necessary to achieve our dreams and aspirations.

“In doing so, you must eschew favouritism, ethnic consideration and religion. Go for the best, field the best at all times and live above board.

“You know as much as I do that the greatest coaches are those spectators and fans who will criticize and come at you at any given opportunity and the greatest weapon against them is success. The moment you achieve that, then you will be the toast of the State football community.”

In his response, Coach Osho thanked the Commissioner for the audience granted him. that since he arrived Uyo, it has been professionalism all the way and this has made his work easy.

Sir, in all the clubs I have worked, I must confess Akwa United is unique. There is so much professionalism here in the management of the Club and we have been given all the tools we need to succeed.

“We have recruited well and I can say without any fear of contradiction that we are ready for the league”.

In his remark, Akwa United Chairman Elder Paul Bassey thanked the Honourable Commissioner for the marching orders, knowing quite well that Akwa Ibomites are football crazy not ready to settle for less.

Honourable Commissioner, we are the victims of our own success and we have evolved in the last six years to a point where even second is not good enough.

“I thank you Sir for the undiluted support extended to us over the years. You have always been there for us, the reason for our successes”.

The experienced sports administrator was also all gratitude for the support of the State Government making Akwa United the number one choice of Nigeria’s domestic footballers.

Akwa Ibom does not owe players salary or bonuses, their welfare is paramount and we expect them to reciprocate with results” He said.

The current league season is expected to kick off on September 9 in ten venues across the Federation.
