AKWA UTD POISED TO EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN IN THE LEAGUE

Akwa United will be eager to extend their unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League to four matches when they take on Doma United on matchday 28 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Nest of Champions in Uyo on Wednesday.

The Promise Keepers are unbeaten in their last three games comprising two wins (against Bendel Insurance and Plateau United) and one draw against (Gombe United), in a run that has seen them picked seven points from a possible nine.

Their morale boosting victory in Jos against Plateau United on matchday 27 coupled with winning the Akwa Ibom State FA Cup for a record fifteen times in sixteen years will certainly be the motivating factor for the 2021 champions as they look forward to recording three successive home victories for the first time this campaign.

Akwa United, 17th on the log with 31 points from 27 games, will be in a confident mood going into the game against Doma United who are winless in their last ten league matches. The Promise Keepers are in good scoring form having netted six times and conceded three in their last three matches.

The team from Gombe defeated Akwa United 1-0 in the first leg but they have conceded seventeen goals while scoring just four in their last ten outings and they are currently 13th in the table with 34 points from 27 matches.

Akwa United’s new Head Coach Muhammed Babaganaru will take charge of the team since he joined the club two weeks ago and he will be aiming to hit the ground running on Wednesday in a bid to get the 2021 champions to a safe place in the league table and he has a strong squad to choose from for the tie following the return to full fitness of striker Edidiong Ezekiel with the only injury concern being winger, Mustapha Dan-Azumi who picked up a knocked during the state FA Cup competition.

With the team now playing some attractive football at the Nest of Champions, much will be expected from mid-season signings Sani Suleiman who has netted six goals in eight matches and from former captain Ubong Friday who has scored three goals since rejoining the team.

The match is scheduled to kickoff at four O’clock in the afternoon and there will be live updates of the game on all Akwa United social media platforms one hour before kickoff.
