AKWA UTD RETAINS AKWA IBOM STATE FA CUP CROWN, BEAT FC ONE ROCKET IN THE FINAL

Record winners Akwa United Football Club on Saturday 30 March 2024 at the Uyo township stadium defeated Nigeria National League side FC One Rocket 1-0 to retain their State FA Cup title.

Former FC One Rocket defender Paschal Onunze scored the decisive goal for the Promise Keepers in the first half of the match to help his new team secure their 16th title in 17 years.

New head coach of Akwa United Muhammed Babaganaru took charge of the team during the final match since his arrival at the club early in the week and made a victorious start on the touchline for the 2021 Nigeria Premier League champions.

Youngsters Auwal Ibrahim, Nsikak Raphael and Donatus Ikumo all featured in the keenly contested game and they made positive contributions to the success of their side.

Akwa United, two-time champions of the National Federation Cup (2015 and 2017), and the beaten finalists FC One Rocket will represent Akwa Ibom State in the Federation Cup competition where they will compete with clubs from other states in which the winner will represent Nigeria in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup tournament later this year.
