NPFL: AKWA UTD AIM FOR 5TH WIN OF THE SEASON, HOST KWARA UTD WEDNESDAY

Fresh from their morale-boosting away win against Niger Tornadoes on match-day 9, reigning NPFL champions Akwa United will be aiming for their fifth victory of the season when they march out against 8th placed Kwara United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday 2nd February, 2022.

With four wins, two draws and three loses in their opening nine matches, the Promise Keepers are 7th on the NPFL log with 14 points, five behind joint leaders Rivers United and Remo Stars.

The two-time Federation Cup champions will be full of confidence as they hope to continue their fine home run which has seen them record 19 victories and four draws in their last 23 home games.

Last season, Akwa United were forced to a 1-1 draw in Ilorin before beating Kwara United 2-1 in Uyo on their way to winning the NPFL title for the first time in their history.

Speaking ahead of the game, coach Kennedy Boboye has encouraged his players to go all out for victory on Wednesday. “With the away win we got in Abuja, we really need to build on that momentum and ensure we don’t drop any more points at home. Currently we are five points behind joint leaders, and we need to keep pushing.

“We know that Kwara United will be coming here with a game plan, and we need to up our game and approach the match with a positive mindset, knowing that victory will improve our standing on the table”, said Boboye.

Captain Ubong Friday has scored three goals in four home games this season and has provided two assists. Akwa United have scored eight goals and conceded five while their match-day10 opponents have scored ten goals and conceded eight.

In the ten previous meetings between the two teams, Akwa United have recorded four wins, three draws and three loses.

The crucial game is billed to kick-off at four O’clock in the afternoon at the Nest of Champions.
