Transfer News: Akwa Utd sign seven new players, drop seven

 

 

In an effort to land their first NPFL title, 2017 Aiteo Cup Champions Akwa United have fortified their squad with the signning of seven quality players during the just concluded mid-season transfer window.

The new stars comprise five forwards and two defenders. They are; former Barcelona of Spain Team B player Ezekiel Bassey, Ex-Lobi Stars and MCA of Algeria forward Barnabas Imenger Jr, former Enyimba and Al-Nasr Club of Oman striker Ifeanyi Ede and former PFC Beroe-Stara of Bulgaria striker Boniface Mathew.

 

 

Others are former Iyajapi Rocks of Abuja winger Paul Obata, former Kano Pillars defender Jamiu Alimi and former Rivers United centre back Ayobami Asekunowo.

Some of the new players who have featured for the Promise Keepers have made impact already. Forwards Ifeanyi Ede has scored two goals all in the state FA Cup against Hills FC and Cofine FC,while Paul Obata scored the lone goal in an NPFL match against GO-Round on Matchday 21.

The new players have assured the management and fans of the club of their commitment towards achieving the team’s target this season.

Meanwhile, seven players were released from their contracts during the mid-season transfer window. They include Amaechi Orji (now with Heartland) Christian Pyagbara (Enugu Rangers) Hassan Babangida (Nasarawa United), Musa Newman (Rivers United), Ajibola Otegbeye (Sunshine Stars), Yenne Tenton (unattach) and Kenneth James (unattach).
