Following Akwa United’s back to back victories in the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League, Central defender Denis Nya has declared that he and his teammates are determined to keep the winning mentality in all the remaining matches of the season.
Nya who is one of the few players to have played all his team’s six matches so far this season told the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.net that he was not comfortable with his team’s slow start but stressed that they want to maintain the current momentum which has seen them record two straight wins.
“Honestly, I am very happy with our performance and results in the last two games. The victory at home against Go Round and the away win in Damaturu has lifted our spirit and we want to sustain this winning culture. My teammates are all quality players and when we had those poor results at the beginning of the season, I was worried but I never doubted our recovery.
“In this abridged league, every point is very important and if we must achieve our target of playing in the continent, we must work hard as a team and ensure we win games irrespective of the venue. These two victories is a good motivation for us and by the grace of God we will maintain this winning mentality till the end of the season”.
Denis Nya who won the FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Golden Eaglets in 2013 was the Promise Keepers’ best defender last season after he scored three goals in 22 matches.
