With ten points from ten matches comprising two victories, four draws with four loses, Akwa United will be aiming to grab their third win of the campaign when they engage Kwara United on matchday 11 on Saturday at the Eket Stadium.
In their previous five home matches this season, the Promise Keepers are unbeaten having picked up two wins and three draws and they stay 17th on the log, three points behind Kwara United who are 9th in the table with 13 points.
Coach Fatai Osho and his team have endured a slow start to the 2023-24 season and they are in desperate need of three points on Saturday, knowing that a win will lift the team out of the danger zone.
Last time out at the Eket Stadium, Akwa United defeated Remo Stars 3-2, thus taking their tally at home to four goals in five games. The two goals by Remo Stars was the first time the Promise Keepers had conceded in five home matches this season.
Coach Fatai Osho has a full strength team to select his matchday squad from. Goalkeeper Jean Efala, defender Anthony Chukwuebuka and striker Hadi Mohammed have all recovered from injuries and have returned to full fitness.
Coach Fatai has told his players that Saturday’s game is a must win for them and added that they cannot afford to drop any more points at home.
“Our game on Saturday is another opportunity for us to redeem ourselves by going for all three points. We know that it won’t be easy but we are ready and determined to fight for the maximum point.
“After ten rounds of matches, we are at the wrong end of the table and we want to get out of that zone as quickly as possible, so all matches are a must win for us, beginning from this one against Kwara United because we cannot afford to drop any more points especially at home.
“We have done a lot of work with the boys in our training sessions and we trust they will come to the party on Saturday and prove their worth. I have confidence that my players will get the job done because they have been well trained, encouraged and motivated. Now it’s time for them to reciprocate that gesture by winning the game for the fans and supporters of this club”.
In the fourteen previous meetings between the two clubs, both have recorded five wins apiece while four of those encounters ended in draws. Kwara United has never won on Akwa Ibom soil in each of their last eight visits comprising five defeats and three draws.
Fans and supporters of Akwa United will be in full voice cheering their team on and the players will be expected to come to the party with a superlative performance that will give their fans something to celebrate at the end of regulation time.
Live updates of the match will be available on all Akwa United social media platforms from three O’clock in the afternoon.
