WE WILL FIGHT FOR THE MAXIMUM POINT IN ABA

As Akwa United continue to push for their first win of the new season, head Coach Fatai Osho has maintained that his team will not leave any stone unturned but will fight for the maximum point when they face last season’s champions Enyimba International in Aba on Sunday.

The Promise Keepers have managed just one point from their opening two games while Enyimba International, with a game in hand against Bendel Insurance are without a point following a 2-0 defeat to Gombe United on Matchday 2.

Coach Fatai revealed that the game against his former club will be tough but expressed the hope that his team will approach the match with a positive mindset aimed at picking all three points.

“Sunday will present us with another opportunity to go for our first win of the season. We have worked hard and we believe in our ability as a team that we can take on any club in the league. Enyimba is a big team, they are the defending champions, but we will not be looking at the name Enyimba, instead we will be concentrating on what we can get out of the game and we are determined to fight for the maximum point.

“Our last two games were not good enough in terms of results but our general approach to the game and our ball play was encouraging. Goal scoring seems to be the issue and we have addressed that in our different training sessions. Our team is such that any Player can score so i’m impressed with the level of competition by my players who all want to be part of the matchday squad. The confidence level is very high and the mood in camp is good. So we are fully ready for the match on Sunday”

In the last six meetings between the two sides in the league, Akwa United have recorded two victories while Enyimba managed one win while three of those encounters ended in draws. Last season, the Promise Keepers picked a point against Enyimba in Aba and won the return fixture 1-0 in Uyo.

The 2021 champions have scored three goals Oguntayo Seyi (2) and Hadi Mohammed (1) in two games and coach Fatai will be expecting his players to be more prolific in front of goal as they continue their push for a first league win of the 2023-24 season.

The match is slated to kickoff at four O’clock in the afternoon with live updates on all Akwa United’s social media platforms.
